Bio: Has practiced Pediatric and Preventive Cardiology for the Nemours Cardiac Center for the past 12 years. Became Cardiology Division Head in January of 2008 and interim director of heart failure/transplant in March 2011. Clinical interests include general pediatric cardiology, preventive cardiology, exercise, heart failure, fetal diagnosis, and Kawasaki Disease. Current research includes local studies on congenital heart disease, on the cardiovascular morbidity of obesity (exercise studies, lipid studies, hypertension, insulin resistance), early imaging of atherosclerosis, and continued participation in 3 multicenter studies, PDAY, TODAY, and CARDIA. Leads or is a co-investigator in funded studies on BP in African American teenagers, fish oil for treatment of triglycerides in adolescents, and statins for treating hypercholesterolemia in diabetics. Works actively in the development of the CTSA application of the Delaware Health Sciences Association, and is a founding member of the Northeast pediatric lipid group, a regional consortium dedicated to prevention of adult onset lipid related diseases beginning in youth. Has also participated or is currently participating as an expert in the development of consensus guidelines and scientific statements for NIH (hypertension, comprehensive CVD risk guidelines for children), CDC (tobacco), the American Heart Association (obesity, nutrition, tobacco, congenital heart disease), the National Lipid Association, American Academy of Pediatrics (nutrition, congenital heart disease), and the American Diabetic Association (lipids). Has been a visiting professor at the Cleveland Clinic, University of Miami, University of Pittsburgh, University of West Virginia, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Texas A and M University, Brown University, and the University of Michigan and lectured internationally.
