Bio: Robert W. Mason, PhD, is a Principal Research Scientist and Head of the Laboratory of Clinical Biochemistry at Nemours. His primary affiliation is with the Center for Pediatric Research where he serves as Program Coordinator, Mentor and Director of the Cell Science and Proteomics Core. Dr. Mason earned his PhD in Biochemistry from Leeds University in the United Kingdom. After a post-doctoral position at the Food Research Institute in Bristol, UK, he moved to the Strangeways Research Laboratory in Cambridge, UK with support from the Medical Research Council. He was a Professor of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech before joining Nemours in 1994. Dr. Mason is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware and a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University. His research focuses on rapidly proliferating neuroblastomas and how they differ from normal neuronal cells in children. His primary expertise is in the biochemistry and biological function of mammalian proteases. His research is supported by the Nemours Foundation as well as the National Institutes of Health (P20GM013464, P20GM103446, U54GM104941) and the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance. Dr. Mason also serves as Director of the Nemours Graduate Program with the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware.
